The critics of CPM are known for the sarcasm by crediting the party with running with best employment establishment in the state. There is no doubt that the plethora of cooperative ventures under sway of the party always provided a vehicle for keeping the wards of CPM leaders from being unemployed. Of late, the CPM leadership is known for running the best employment guarantee scheme for those who have lost elections, according to observers.
Nikesh Kumar, the former media person, is one such beneficiary of the new scheme of the party, they say. Mr. Kumar, who lost the battle at Azhikode, was one of the invitees for a discussion on shaping the future of the much talked Cancer Centre in Kochi the other day. But, the speech made by Mr. Kumar on the occasion was not music to ears of CPM leaders as he recalled efforts made by his late father MV Raghavan for setting up Pariyaram Medical College. People familiar with the bitter history behind Pariyaram was struggling to keep a straight face.
