Hunt on for Padma awardee Dr Sundar Menon

He has been charged with attempt to outrage the modesty of a woman, physical assault and threatening her.

THRISSUR: The deputy director of the bureau of immigration in New Delhi has issued a look-out circular (LOC) against Padma Shri awardee and NRI businessman Dr Sundar Menon on the basis of a request made by the Kerala police. Mr Menon has been absconding after the East police here registered a case against him on August 7 for allegedly assaulting an MBA student, Parvathi, daughter of Venugopal, a resident of Kunnath lane near Thiruvamabadi temple. He has been charged with attempt to outrage the modesty of a woman, physical assault and threatening her.

Parvathi is the neighbour of Bala Subramaniyam, who had filed a complaint against Mr Menon allegedly for holding passports with two different names. The alleged assault happened a day before Mr Menon was expected to report to the East police for inquiry in connection with the passport case. East SI P. Lalkumar told DC that Mr Menon might have left for Doha in Qatar from Coimbatore airport. With the LOC issued against him, the police would be alerted if he arrived at any airport or port using his passport.

The Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Coimbatore has been requested to confirm whether Mr Menon has flown to another country from Coimbatore airport, police here said. Meanwhile, those close to Mr Menon alleged that the complaints against him were the result of the rivalry between him and another NRI businessman based in Thrissur.
