Thrissur: A Dalit beautician allegedly tortured at the Pavaratty police station here on Monday was found hanging at his Engandiyur home. Vinayakan, 19, had undergone brutal torture by the policemen, his friend Sarath said. The police had also picked up him while the victim was speaking to a girl whom he was in love with. After taking them into custody, he said, they thrashed Vinayakan on his chest and back. They wanted the duo to admit that they were chain snatchers.
A policeman pulled out the hair of Vinayakan and asked him to cut the hair he had coloured. The victim was released on bail after his father approached them and he was found hanging in his bedroom the same night. His relatives say the marks on his body are proof of severe torture. The cops denied reports saying they had only questioned him. Thrissur Rural SP has ordered an enquiry.
