Over 1,000 education experts to work on new syllabus
Chennai: More than one thousand delegates including former vice-chancellors, educationists, writers, subject experts and officials from other state boards will gather in Chennai on Thursday for a seminar on developing a new curriculum and syllabus for state board students.
Before drafting a new syllabus, the school education department is keen to have a Tamil Nadu curriculum framework. Experts from various fields and institutions like NCERT and IIT, IIM will give an outline of the key elements that are to be included in the new curriculum and syllabus.
“We expect more than 1,000 delegates from across to attend the first day. The seminar will be moved to Anna University for the next two days and around 1,700 teachers, subject experts will discuss the new ideas to be included in the draft syllabus,” G. Arivoli, director, State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT) said.
The SCERT has formed 22 sub-committees on various subjects. Teachers from state board and CBSE schools are also part of these committees. They will discuss these subjects in 23 different halls on Friday and Saturday.
The first day event will be held at Kalaivanar Arangam on Thursday. School education minister K.A. Sengottaiyan, chief secretary Girija Vaidyanathan, school education secretary T. Udhayachandran, former Vice-Chancellor M. Anandakrishnan and Isro scientist Mylswamy Annadurai will participate in the inaugural function.
State government has recently formed a committee headed by former vice-chancellor M. Anandakrishnan to draft the new syllabus for state board students.
