Letter to DGP Loknath Behera on Shamna probe
KOCHI: The Justice V R Krishna Iyer Movement has shot off a letter to DGP Mr Loknath Benra demanding that he personally intervene and supervise the Crime Branch probe into the death of medico Shamna Thasneem at Ernakulam Government Medical College a year ago. The letter pointed out that the probe was now at a standstill.
“The state level medical apex body at its sitting on April 26 this year had reported medical negligence by two doctors of the medical college which led to the death of the girl who was admitted for treatment of fever there. The Crime Branch DySP Mr.K.A.Sasidharan who probed the case presented a report in the apex body meeting which pointed to the deficiency in the services of about 15 staff members including nurses, doctors, hospital superintendent and medical college principal, contributing to the death of Shamna,” the letter said.
“Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr Yatish Chandra is supervising the inquiry into the case which was progressing in an excellent manner. Unfortunately Mr Sasidharan was transferred to another district and we feel that the inquiry came to a standstill after that,” the letter added. “The Justice VR Krishna Iyer Movement which closely follows the case feels that a medical student with fever lost her life in the hands of her own teachers and in her own college in a cruel fashion, may be for the first time in lndia. Hence we request your kind intervention and supervision of the case with personal interest,” it added.
