Kerala: One' means a lot for engineering colleges

Students now have begun to shun colleges that don't have proper infrastructure or quality.

Thiruvananthapuram: Admission statistics after the second round of counselling for B Tech courses conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) showed that there are many colleges which did not have a single student in computer science, electrical and electronics and electrical and communication engineering, considered as the most prestigious courses in engineering. It indicates students now have begun to shun colleges that did not have proper infrastructure or quality. Vinu Thomas Nanthikattu, a professor at Model Engineering College, Thrikkakara, Ernakulam has done an analysis on this. Mr Vinu said there were colleges which had no students in other branches of studies also.

"However, I took these three branches for analysis because they have been traditionally considered as the most prestigious," he told DC. As per the analysis, Aryanet Institute of Technology, Mundoor, Palakkad, Axis College of Engineering and Technology, Murikkingal, Thrissur, Christ Knowledge City for Women, Kuzhoor, Ernakulam, Sree Ernakulathappan College of Engineering and Management, Mukundapuram, Hindustan College of Engineering, Kulathupuzha, KMP College of Engineering, Perumbavoor, Malabar College of Engineering and Technology, Anjarakandy, Matha College of Technology, North Paravur, Muslim Association College of Engineering, Venjaramoodu, Shahul Hameed Memorial Engineering College, Kadakkal, Sree Vellappally Natesan College of Engineering, Mavelikkara and Veda Vyasa Institute of Technology, Malappuram did not have a single student for electronics and communication after the second round of allotment.

Met’s School of Engineering, Mala, and Matha College of Technology, North Paravur, did not have a single student for computer science. While, Aryanet Institute of Technology, Mundoor, Palakkad, Cochin Institute of Science and Technology, Muvattupuzha, KMP College of Engineering, Perumbavoor, MES College of Engineering and Technology, Ernakulam, MET’s School of Engineering, Mala, Ace College of Engineering, Mala, Ace College of Engineering, Thiruvallam and Muslim Association College of Engineering, Venjaramoodu, did not have a single student for electrical and electronics engineering after the second round of allotment.
