Kerala: More medical colleges to sign fee agreement

With this, 20 per cent of the MBBS seats in these colleges in government quota will carry only Rs 25,000 per annum.

Thiruvananthapuram: More self-financing medical colleges are likely to reach an understanding with the government on retaining last year’s fee structure. Sources said Sree Gokulam Medical College and Research Foundation, Venjaramoodu, and Malabar Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Kozhikode, had expressed their willingness to sign an agreement on this. Last week MES Medical College, Perinthalmanna, Dr Somerwell Memorial CSI Medical College, Karakonam, had entered into an agreement with the government.

With this, 20 per cent of the MBBS seats in these colleges in government quota will carry only Rs 25,000 per annum. The fee for 30 per cent will be Rs 2.5 lakh, and 15 per cent NRI quota Rs 15 lakh. Fee Regulatory Committee had earlier submitted the new fee structure for MBBS course to the High Court - Rs 5 lakh which was Rs 50,000 less than the earlier fixed - applicable to both government and management quotas. However, there will be no change in NRI category. The private management association had earlier approached the HC challenging the validity of the Fee Regulatory Committee as there were lapses in the ordinance.
