Thoothukudi: Last year's winner of the Tamilnadu Premier League cricket tournament organised by Tamilnadu Cricket Association (TNCA), Albert Tuti Patriots team, has been temporarily banned by Thoothukudi district court from playing in the second edition of TNPL that is to commence on July 22 under the Securities and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act 2002.
Issuing an order of temporary injunction restricting “Albert Tuti Patriots”, previously known as “Tuti Patriots”-owned by Thoothukudi Sports and Entertainment Private Limited, for which the Indian Bank main branch of Thoothukudi at Beach Road guaranteed to the tune of Rs 5.21 crore to TNCA, the principal district sessions court of Thoothukudi in its judgment based on the petition filed by P. Pradeep Kumar, chief manager of Indian Bank, said that as Thoothukudi Sports and Entertainment Private Limited, had failed to honour its obligation of repaying the amount guaranteed by the Indian Bank within a year as agreed, the company owned cricket team, Albert Tuti Patriots, has been temporarily banned from playing the second edition of TNPL this
year.
The court too added that the interim injunction is necessary as it involves huge public money. The court verdict too has been sent to the Tamilnadu Cricket Association (TNCA), the organiser of the TNPL. The coordinator and
public relations officer of the TNPL, Dr Baba, when contacted, however said that they are yet to receive the judgment and could comment only after fully knowing the details of the court order.
Tirunelveli zonal manager V. Radhakrishnan, speaking to DC, however clearly stated that they would have no objection over the “Albert Tuti Patriots” playing the TNPL if they make the full repayment of the interest before the commencement of the tournament on July 22.
