Bruised Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen movements refute IS propaganda'

Kerala Nadvathul Mujahiddin blames sufism and fascism for youth's indoctrination

KOZHIKODE: The Mujahid (Salafism) organisations have decided to resist the ‘false propaganda’ that the Malayali youths who have reportedly joined the IS were driven by extreme Salafist ideology. The Kerala Nadvathul Mujahiddin (KNM) conducted three programmes in Kozhikode on Sunday to refute the allegations against the organisation.

The KNM points to three reasons for the indoctrination of Muslim youths, viz., extreme spirituality promoted by Sufism, the agenda of the RSS and that of the rightwing media. “Sufist ideology and fascist forces are trying to sabotage the renaissance which was brought in by Mujahid movements in Islam,” said KNM state president T.P. Abdulla Koya Madani at the convention titled ‘Extreme spirituality-Sufist terrorism’ in Kozhikode.

“The threat of Sufism can be traced to the foiled coup attempt in Turkey. Fethullah Gulen, the Sufi spiritual leader, is said to have masterminded the coup,” pointed out Mr Madani. He slammed that ‘Islamophobia’ was being created by a section of rightwing media with the backing of some officials. Ittihadu Shubbanil Mujahideen (ISM), the youth wing of KNM, too alleged that there was a fascist agenda to tarnish the image of Islam. “IS- linked allegations are being raised sans any evidence and creating confusion among the people,” said Mr C.P Salim, convener of ‘Wisdom Global Islamic Mission,’ a body floated by KNM for Islamic preaching.

The state meet of Mujahid Students Movement (MSM), the student wing of KNM, held at Narikuni called for opposing curbs on religious propagation which was guaranteed in the Constitution. “Sufi thoughts are being invoked to abort the democratic rights,” pointed out KNM state secretary, Dr I.P. Abdusalam who inaugurated the event. Mr T.P Abdulla Koya Madani told DC that a state-wide campaign was going on to expose the ‘real agenda’ behind the ‘flood of news without evidence’.
