14 per cent excess rain in Telangana, Hyderabad deficit

A month after the southwest monsoon covered Telangana, the total rainfall received by the state was 14 per cent extra.

Hyderabad: After five days, Hyderabad recorded 1.2 cm of rain on Monday. While other districts recorded light to moderate rain, Nalgonda and Khammam received over 1 cm. The weather bureau attributed the rain to a trough on the sea level stretching from Odisha to South Tamil Nadu.

Khammam received 40 per cent above normal rain, followed by Adilabad (35 per cent), and then Nizamabad (16 per cent). Hyderabad, Mahbubnagar, Medak, Ranga Reddy districts reported deficit rains.

Inflows to Almatti dam tapers
The inflow into the Almatti dam in Karnataka came down to 1.6 lakh cusecs on Monday against 2 lakh on Sunday.

With the dam full, officials released water through 23 of the 26 gates in the evening. About one lakh cusecs of water would reach Naraya-npur dam. Once it gets gets full, the water will be released to Telangana.

An official said water would reach the Jurala project in TS 36 hours after its release from Narayanpur. The Jurala project, meanwhile, got run-off water from the Sahyadri range. “We are expecting 50,000 to 75,000 more water to Jurala in a fortnight,” an official said.
