VISHAKHAPATNAM: Thundershowers lashed Andhra Pradesh on Monday, significantly reducing the temperature. Mercury fell by five to seven degree Celsius in several regions. The season of heatwave has ended in AP, the weatherman has affirmed.
Temperatures will start decreasing further from Tuesday and parts of both coastal and Rayalaseema districts would experience light to heavy rain, IMD said in its daily report.
It sounded a fresh alert of heavy rainfall at isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, as also thunderstorms accompanied with lightning at isolated places in coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) and Rayalaseema on Tuesday and Wednesday. “Strong winds of 30 to 40 kmph speed are likely at isolated places over central AP and Rayalaseema, it said.
IMD said the heat wave finally ended in entire Andhra Pradesh as only three stations – Nandigama and JangamaheswaraPuram in Palnadu district and Bapatla witnessed such conditions on Monday. “There will be no heat wave from Tuesday,” it said.
The mercury in many parts of the state went down because of the rain and cloudy weather conditions. A day ago, the maximum temperature in Tuni town in Kakinada district fell by 10 degrees. It recorded 31.2 degrees, against 41.7°C on Sunday.
Only five stations recorded above 40°C on Monday. Jangamaheswara Puram in Palnadu district registered the highest temperature of 42.4 degree C.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of Andhra Pradesh. It spread to Kavali locality in Nellore. The conditions are favorable for its further advancement over some more parts of AP in the coming days, the report added.
“In the last 24 hours, Garugubilli in Manyam district recorded 7cm rainfall, followed by 5cm rainfall in Balijipeta of Manyam district, 4cm rainfall each at Pusapatirega, Gajapathinagaram, Mentada and Bondapalli in Vizianagaram district and at Ranasthalam in Srikakulam district,” IMD said.
