KSRTC to link Ernakulam Government Medical College to Kochi metro today
KOCHI: The commencement of Kochi Metro Rail has brought cheers to the patients and their relatives and staff of Kochi Cancer Research Centre (KCRC) and Ernakulam Government Medical College (EGMC) and employees of a host of institutions situated in Kalamassery interiors. To add to that KSRTC had decided to commence feeder services from Metro Station in Aluva to Kalamassery interiors and Kakkanad and back from Monday.
KSRTC Ernakulam zonal officer S.K. Suresh Kumar told DC that the plan is to commence the first bus from Aluva depot at 11 am on Monday which will also touch the Aluva railway station apart from the Metro station. "From the next day onwards, the service will start at 6 am and a total of 30 services will ply in a day," he said. Reacting to the development, KCRC medical superintendent Dr P.G. Balagopal said that a long-felt need of both medical college and cancer has now been met.
"Conveyance has been a major problem for the patients, their relatives and staff of both institutions. This is the result of the initiatives taken by KSRTC MD M.G. Rajamanickam, former Ernakulam Collector K.R. Viswambharan and district collector Muhammed Y. Safirulla,” said Dr Balagopal. He also said that now more patients can comfortably come to KCRC. A bus stand is being constructed by the Kalamassery Municipality now near the medical college which will be opened soon, which will give a big boost to the new services.
