Kerala: Uncertainty over medical admissions
Thiruvananthapuram: With the results of the engineering entrance exams coming out Tuesday and an agreement on fee and quotas in place, the admission process for B Tech courses is on track. However, confusion still prevails over self-financing medical colleges. Education minister C. Raveendranath will release the rank list for admissions to engineering and pharmacy courses at 10.30 a.m, and it will be available on www.cee.kerala.gov.in.
The Kerala Self Financing Engineering College Management Association (KSFECMA) and the State government had recently entered into an agreement on the same fee as last year, with 50 percent seats in government quota, 35 percent management quota and 15 percent NRI quota. However, the government failed to evolve a consensus with medical colleges even after several rounds of talks with they insisting a unified fee of Rs 15 lakh for all MBBS seats while the government proposed Rs 4.5 lakh for all seats. Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) will make admissions for MBBS from a state level rank list prepared from NEET.
However, it has not yet been clear when the NEET results would be announced. The results scheduled for June 8 earlier were delayed after the Madras High Court stayed it on a plea citing lack of uniformity in the question paper. The Supreme Court which set it aside directed other high courts to stay away from entertaining any petition on the NEET 2017.
