Calicut University to call principals' conclave on June 21
Kozhikode: Calicut University will convene a conclave of affiliated college principals to discuss the implementation of digital technology in academics and also about the various projects the varsity is planning to undertake as part of the golden jubilee celebrations. The conclave, scheduled to be held on June 21, will also discuss the admissions process and conduct of university examinations. The principals will be addressed by Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC) Director Dr Rajbir Singh in a one-hour session during the conclave.
The CEC is an Inter University Centre set up by the UGC with the goal of addressing the needs of higher education through the use of Television and through Information Communication Technology (ICT). The Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC) at Calicut University is launching a number of online courses under the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) project soon. The University is planning to take the help of teachers from affiliated colleges to develop courses. For this purpose, the principals have been asked to bring one more teacher from physics, chemistry, geology or geography department to attend the session.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Vice Chancellor Dr K Mohammed Basheer said that the conclave would also discuss the projects as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations. “We have already started the one-year-long Green Campus campaign which we need to extend to all affiliated colleges. The meeting will inform the principals about the varsity’s plan of implementation and also take their feedback. The NSS is planning to construct 50 houses for the poor in each district under the University’s jurisdiction. We will also discuss the implementation of that with the principals,” he added. The conclave will start at the Seminar Complex at 10 am. The engineering and medical college principals under the varsity are not part of the meeting.
