Maha Samprokshana of Govindaraja Swamy temple on May 25

TIRUPATI: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is to organise Maha Samprokshana of Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple at Tirupati from May 21 to 25 with Ankurarpanam on May 20.

This ritual, as per the Agama Shastra, will be observed in connection with the completion of the gold plating works of the temple’s Vimana Gopuram, which began on September 14 in 2021. As much as 100 kg of gold and 4,300 kg of copper at a cost of Rs 32 crore have been used for the gold plating of the gopuram.

According to the TTD, the rituals of Punyahavachanam and Raksha Bandhanam will be performed on the morning of May 21 at Yagashala followed by Srivari Kalakarshanam in the evening. Other Vaidik rituals will be performed at Yagashala both morning and evening on May 22 and 23.

On May 24 morning, the rituals including Jaladivasam, and Bimba Sthapana and in the evening Maha Shanti Tirumanjanam and other Vaidik programs will be held at Yagashala.

On May 25, Kumbharadhana, Nivedana, Homams, Maha Purnahuti and Maha Samprokshanam rituals will be performed during the auspicious Mithuna Lagnam between 7.45 am and 9.15 am.

Thereafter, Akshata Arohanam and Archaka Bahumanam will be held and thereafter, devotees will be allowed for darshan from 10.30 am. In the evening, Pedda Sesha Vahana Seva will be conducted on Mada streets.

In connection with both Maha Samprokshanam of Vimana Gopuram and the ensuing annual Brahmotsavams, Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam was held at Govindaraja Swamy temple on Thursday. As part of this traditional purification ritual, the Parimalam mixture was smeared on the walls and roofs and applied to the pillars between 6.30 am and 8.30 am on the day. The annual Brahmotsavams are scheduled to be held between May 26 to June 3 with Ankurarpanam on May 25.
