Shamna case: Apex board report ready

Crime Branch had taken the public stand that it will go ahead with steps like effecting arrests after receiving report of the medical apex board.

Kochi: The final report of the state medical apex board, which looked into the medical negligence aspect in the death of medico Shamna Tasneem at Ernakulam Government Medical College, is learnt to be ready and will be handed over to the Crime Branch officials investigating the case in a few days.

“The report is waiting to be signed by the Director of Health Services and Director of Medical Education (DME) and it has reached the office of the DHS from the office of the Director General of Prosecution (DGP). Once it is signed by the three officials, it will be handed over to the Crime Branch,” said a senior health department official, refusing to divulge the details of the report.

Meanwhile in the sitting held at Kannur by the State Human Rights Commission acting chairman P Mohana Das, Shamna’s father K A Abootty submitted that even after the convening of the meeting of the state apex medical board on April 24, no action has been taken in the case nor its report published. Following the submission, the SHRC head issued a summons to the Crime Branch official currently in charge of the case to be present before the commission on June 13 to explain the steps taken so far in the case.
