Blood donation campaigner reaches Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: Kiran Verma arrived in Thiruvananthapuram after walking a distance of over 6000 km with the sole mission of spreading awareness about blood donation.
A regular blood donor who has already donated blood 40 times, had started off from Srinagar on January 22. It was the untimely death of his mother that prompted him to do something for saving precious lives and thus began his campaign for blood donation awareness.
“I know the value of life. I have saved few people by donating blood. Our virtual blood donation platform – Simply Blood - is now working in eleven countries,” said Verma.
He chose to walk with the objective of create awareness about blood donation at least among 10 persons per km. “I have personally contacted hundreds of people and helped over 2,000 persons through our platform,” said the Noida born 33 year old blood donation campaigner.
According to him, vast sections of people are still unaware of the importance of blood donation. “People don’t believe when I tell them that 6 lakh units of blood is wasted every year. At some places they even tried to assault me accusing me of misleading people,” Verma said.
“My most memorable moment was when our platform helped a Mysore girl who required blood urgently. Three people came forward to donate at a very short notice to save her life,” he said and urged people to donate blood at least once a year.
Verma thanks his wife Jayati for the success of his campaign. From Kerala he plans to travel to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
