Nepotism charge against EP Jayarajan likely to be closed
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau may close the nepotism case against former minister and CPM central committee member E.P. Jayarajan. According to vigilance sources, it is unlikely to proceed further as the High Court had allowed a stay on the probe considering Mr Jayarajan's contentions and the state government had also informed the court that there was no corruption in the case. The HC stay order also did not impose any restriction in filing a refer report.
Sources also pointed out that even if the vigilance decided to file a charge-sheet, it will require government's nod. The vigilance special investigation unit-II registered a case against Mr. Jayarajan in connection with the appointment of his nephew P.K. Sudheer as managing director of KSIE. The HC allowed a stay following Mr Jayarajan's contentions that there was no corruption as he and others did not get any pecuniary benefits from the appointment and moreover the order was revoked before executing it. The state government had also submitted before the court that there was no offence in the allegation.
