CPM-CPI set to solve differences
CPI welcomes decision to withdraw UAPA in 42 cases.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI general secretary S. Sudhakar Reddy on Tuesday said that the central leadership of the two parties will prepare the ground for party to party discussions between their Kerala units to resolve differences. Mr Reddy told this newspaper that the CPI central leaders will discuss the issue with their CPM counterparts to finalise the discussions. “We have not decided the dates yet. All these matters will be discussed in the due course. But there are no complicated matters or differences between the two parties that cannot be resolved amicably. Healthy discussions are always welcomed by Communist parties,” he added.
The CPI central leader hailed the government decision to withdraw UAPA sections in as many as 42 cases. The committee headed by state police chief had found that UAPA was unwarranted in these cases registered since 2012. “State government’s decision to set up a committee for reviewing UAPA cases and the subsequent decision to scrap the sections in 42 cases is a step in the right direction,” Mr Reddy said. Meanwhile, CPI state leaders said the leadership of the two parties would hold informal discussions on the sidelines of the seminar on “Centre State Relations” being organised by AKG Centre for Study and Research here on April 20.
