Ability team flays Raghuram Rajan's 'blind' usage
Kochi: The members of Ability, a project addressing the needs of physically challenged students, and research scholars of Kottayam-based Mahatma Gandhi University, have objected to the language used by RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan in the meeting of IMF-World Bank in Washington the other day.
In a letter to Mr. Rajan, Dr. K.T. Rammohan of the Ability Team, pointed out that he should have been “more sensitive” to the choice of his simile during his speech at the meeting.
Dr. Rammohan stated that the simile used by Mr. Rajan to describe the position of Indian economy was insensitive from the point of view of visually challenged persons. Mr. Rajan had said, “Indian economy is like a one-eyed king in the land of the blind.” In his letter, Dr. Rammohan said, “I wish you were more sensitive in your choice of simile, especially as the governor of the central bank of the country, and speaking in an international forum.”
