Pollachi case: Key accused sent to judicial remand

Thirunavukkarasu taken to central prison.

Coimbatore: The key accused in the sensational Pollachi sexual harassment case was Monday sent to judicial remand by a court here at the end of the four-day CB-CID custody.

Thirunavukkarasu was produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate S Nagarajan complying with his direction on Friday when he granted fourdays CB-CID custody of the accused for interrogation, police said.

After interrogation at an undisclosed place, the CB-CID produced him before the CMM, who remanded him to judicial custody.

He was later taken to the Central prison here, where the three other accused -- Sabariajan, Sathish and Vasanthkumar -- are also lodged.

Thirunavakkarasu and the others were arrested late last month in connection with the case which sent shock waves after a leaked video in which a woman was screaming and resisting her assailants went viral.

There were also reports that the four had indulged in similar sexual harassment of several other women over the past seven years after befriending them.

According to police, the four men had allegedly tried to strip the woman inside a car near Pollachi and had shot a video of the act and blackmailed her using the visuals and tried extortion. The woman, who managed to free
herself from the gang, lodged a complaint with police on February 24. The Tamil Nadu government has already issued an order transferring the case to the CBI.
