Man held for bomb hoax call to Tamil Nadu CM’s house
Chennai: A bomb threat was reported at the home of Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami in the early hours of Monday and a 23-year-old "mentally disturbed" man was arrested in connection with the threat call which has turned out to be a hoax.
As soon as the police control room received the call, the police were immediately alerted and special teams and sniffer dogs made a thorough search of the Greenways Road residence of the Chief Minister. But it turned out to be a hoax, sources said.
According to the police, in the early hours of Monday, the police control room had received a bomb threat call to the CM’s residence at Greenways road.
Police said, the man, later identified as L. Sundarraj of Pallikaranai, had made a phone call to the police control room Monday morning, claiming a bomb had been planted at the Chief Minister’s residence, police said.
Members of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) along with sniffer dogs carried out checks at Palaniswami’s Greenways Roadhouse which proved the threat was a ‘hoax,’ they said.
He was taken into custody and the police were conducting enquiries with him. Quoting initial investigations, police said. Sundarraj was "slightly mentally disturbed" and had undergone treatment at an institute of mental health here.
It may be recalled that recently, the police arrested a man from Coimbatore for making phone calls claiming that the bombs had been placed at the residences of the former Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha and actor Rajinikanth in Poes Garden in Chennai. Recently, the same person had called the office of the Puducherry Chief Minister as well warning of bombs, reports stated.
