Tiruchy OFT gets orders to make AK-47 rifles

This rifle will have the inherent advantage of engineering support from OFT and easy availability of spares, Mr. Rao mentioned.

Tiruchy: The prestigious ‘Ordnance Factory’ at Tiruchy (OFT), one of the oldest establishments of the Indian Defense production sector, has received fresh orders for indigenously making AK-47 rifles from few state police forces and production and assembly lines here are being established for its mass production, according to K.Appa Rao, general manager, OFT.

Shri. Appa Rao, who was speaking at the 216th Ordnance Factories Day here on Saturday and pointed out that the indigenously developed 7.62 x39 mm will substitute for the imported AK-47s that are currently being used by India’s Central Armed Paramilitary forces and State police contingents in counter-insurgency operations.

This rifle will have the inherent advantage of engineering support from OFT and easy availability of spares, Mr. Rao mentioned. He handed over the 7.62 x 39 mm assault rifle manufactured indigenously to Shri. Ratan Lal Dangi, DIG, Chhattisgarh Police at a function here.
