Hyderabad: Gandhi hospital's staff fired; Governor seeks report

The action against the two workers was initiated by hospital superintendent Dr P. S. Manjula.

Hyderabad: Two contract employees of Gandhi Hospital, P.Venkat Ratnam and S. Mahendra Bai, were suspended on Friday for demanding money from a family for wheelchair services.

The action against the two workers was initiated by hospital superintendent Dr P. S. Manjula. Meanwhile, Telangana Governor E. S. L. Narasimhan has asked for a detailed report from the superintendent of Gandhi Hospital.

According to sources, the bribery incident has left the Governor “very upset” and he has asked Gandhi Hospital’s doctors and administration staff to remain watchful. He has also asked senior staff to give top priority to patients’ interests.

Senior Gandhi staff admitted to lapses in administration. “We are aware of such problems and are also going to hold a session that will help sensitise these contract employees towards patient interest. We will tell them that they must not demand money from patients or their relatives. We are also going to organise workshops in the hospital. The suspension of the two staffers has sent out a strong message,” said superintendent Dr Manjula.
