KCR government restored the glory of Kakatiya rulers, says Harish Rao

HYDERABAD: Finance minister T. Harish Rao said that under Mission Kakatiya, the state government has restored 46,000 water bodies since 2014, a tribute to the Kakatiyas and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.

Harish Rao was speaking at a book launch on the Kakatiya dynasty, ‘Kakatiya Coins’, written by Dr D. Raja Reddy, a neurosurgeon and numismatist, and published by Kakatiya Heritage Trust here on Saturday, where he stressed the significance of the Kakatiya empire. Dr Reddy conducted research on the Kakatiya period coins in the Nampally State Museum.

“The Kakatiyas had an excellent rule. Foreign travellers like Amir Khusro and Marco Polo told the world through their writings that Andhradesham was rich in silk during the Kakatiya period. Not only inscriptions and coins, but many pieces of evidence of the Kakatiya rule are still evident. The Kakatiyas worked tirelessly to increase the arable land and water resources in the Telangana region.”

Rao said that it was important to bring the work of the Kakatiya rulers into the public domain and the book would serve as a means to remember the Kakatiyas who ruled Telangana.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Dr Reddy said, “Kakatiyas followed the pattern of the Chalukyan kings and never put the name of the king or the dynasty on the coin. It was necessary for us to research and look into the inscription and then find the coins.”

Kakatiya Heritage Trust founder B.V. Papa Rao said that when Dr Reddy was the most appropriate person for the work that they planned to do with the coins.
