Kerala: Luxury car owners in dock
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More luxury car owners in the state, including celebrities, are likely to be in Crime Branch net in connection with registration of vehicles in Puducherry to evade the higher road tax in Kerala. The Crime Branch may also register cases against other state dealers of posh cars like Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini and Ferrari. According to sources, even as the Motor Vehicles Department had not yet lodged any fresh complaints regarding registration of vehicles in Puducherry, the Crime Branch team probing the case already registered cases against almost all luxury car dealers in the state.
Details of all those who purchased cars from these dealers are also being collected by the Crime Branch team. “We strongly suspect that there would be many more vehicles registered in Puducherry using fabricated address proofs and being used in Kerala. It may obviously include many celebrities as well as business persons,” Crime Branch sources said. Meanwhile, the Crime Branch also came across posh cars like Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini and Ferrari bearing Puducherry registration being frequently used in Kerala. But there are no dealers for these vehicles in the state. Hence, the Crime Branch is collecting details of dealers of these cars in other states like Chennai and Bengaluru.
The Crime Branch will file a report in the High Court regarding charges against actor Amala Paul and she might also be arrested as serious discrepancies were found in her statement regarding the Puducherry address used for registering the car. While she claimed that she had taken a building on rent in Puducherry for shooting purposes and that building’s address was used for registering her Benz car, the Crime Branch had obtained evidence of another luxury car also registered using the same address.
