Kerala: Student forced to withdraw critical Facebook post

However, the authorities decided to spare her after the student agreed to express regret.

Thiruvananthapuram: A post-graduate student who raised the issue of gender discrimination at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College has been forced to express regret over her Facebook posts criticising the college’s decision against the boys and girls sitting together in classrooms. A committee the college authorities had appointed had found the Facebook posts an act of indiscipline and recommended action. However, the authorities decided to spare her after the student agreed to express regret.

It is understood that the college will convene PTA meetings to discuss the issue with many students complaining that the previous PTA meeting did not attend to their grievances. The committee also found that there was nothing wrong with girls and boys sitting side by side in classes. The authorities also agreed to allow the practice to continue due to the space shortage, which they say would end when the new lecture hall is opened. The students had complained that some teachers had threatened not to value their internal examination papers. However, the three teachers who faced the allegation denied it.
