Y' category security for Kerala BJP leaders

BJP sources told this newspaper that Ved Prakash interacted with chief protocol officer of the state as well.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Based on the state police intelligence report, four state BJP leaders are expected to be provided with ‘Y’ category security soon. BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan, former president P.K. Krishnadas and general secretaries M.T. Ramesh and K. Surendran will get ‘Y’ category security and expenses will be borne by the state government. On December 10, a team of Central Reserve Police Force officials visited the state BJP office and the homes of these senior party leaders.

Usually, ‘Y’ category security is provided to all the Union ministers. Mr Kummanam told this newspaper that CRPF’s director general K. Durga Prasad asked his commandant in charge of security and investigations, Ved Prakash who held talks with him and other state BJP leaders. “It is the responsibility of the Kerala police to provide security to the four BJP leaders. We have been informing police about threats we have been receiving. Recently, the police intelligence team had nabbed a few offenders and they came to the conclusion that our lives are under threat. Accordingly, we are now hoping that the Kerala police will give us with ‘Y’ category security,” said Mr Kummanam.

It is reliably learnt that these four BJP leaders were receiving threat from supporters of a particular political party as well as from terrorist organisations. BJP sources told this newspaper that Ved Prakash interacted with chief protocol officer of the state as well. There are unconfirmed reports that from January, all the four state BJP leaders will get ‘Y’ category security by a 11-member police team round the clock and two security men will be always with them round the clock. Intelligence ADGP R. Sreelekha confirmed to DC that already these four leaders are being provided security by the Kerala Police. “I can’t talk more as it is an internal security matter,” said Ms Sreelekha.
