Gen 3 E-cars not yet ready for Formula car race

HYDERABAD: The car races at the NTR Marg city circuit would test the strength and safety of the track, a HMDA official told Deccan Chronicle on Friday.

The cars used on Saturday and Sunday would be the Wolf GB08 used by drivers in the Indian Racing League (IRL).

Racing events are scheduled for this weekend and also for December 10 and 11. The IRL consisting of six teams competing in a league format.

The official said 7,500 people can watch the races over the weekend. Due importance has been given for the safety of spectators, the official said. The number will be increased to 10,000 during the second set of events.

Speaking to DC, B.M. Santosh, Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL) managing director, said the Wolf GBo8 cars would run on high octane fuel,

Santosh, who is also Buddha Purnima Project (BPP) officer on special duty, said the races were essential to check the behaviour, durability and safety of the track. He said that the February 11 Formula E Grand Prix event would be held after securing track approval from the FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile), the international body that controls motor sports and of which the FMSCI (Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India) is a member.

"Barricading and other safety specifications will be entirely taken care of by FIA and FMSCI. They will also take precautionary measures to avoid accidents and injuries to spectators," he added.

Four pedestrian bridges will be taken up by the promoter for the spectators to reach their respective stands. The starting point of the racing track is opposite NTR Garden, from where it will go on NTR Marg abd IMAX Road and close at the starting point in a loop, covering a total length of 2.70 km.

Wolf Racing Cars has been manufacturing the GB08 Thunder since 2010. The company manufactures Wolf GB08 Tornado and Wolf GB08 Mistral.
