12-year-old-student\'s death sparks protests in Paderu

Vishakapatnam: The death of a twelve-year-old boy, whose body was found near a cinema theater at Paderu in ASR district, sparked protests from the family, relatives, friends as also student organisations there on Thursday.

The deceased was P Naveen, a Class-VII student of the Government Tribal Welfare Ashram School for Boys in Lochaliputtu locality of Paderu mandal. The family suspects someone killed him and dumped the body in the bushes.

Naveen was a native of Surlapalem village in G Madugula mandal. The body with wounds was found near the boundary wall of the residential school on Wednesday evening. The local police shifted the body for post-mortem.

The boy’s father Mahendra said Naveen came home to Surlapalem a few days ago and returned to the school on Tuesday. “When I went to the school on Wednesday to meet my son, the school authorities didn't allow me in,’’ Mahendra told the media. He sought a detailed probe into the death.

Leaders and activists of the student organisations (SFI and ABVP) staged protests in Paderu and called for an inquiry arrest of the culprits. Police said an investigation was on to ascertain facts.

Meanwhile, in another development, the Bheemili police are investigating the case of attack and kidnap of a man that took place at the tourist resort Erramatti Dibbalu near Bhimili. A woman reported at the police station on Wednesday that her husband went missing from Erramatti Dibbalu. Later, the victim, Killi Surendra, returned home and lodged a complaint with the police that he was attacked and kidnapped.

Police said there was no evidence yet of any attack or kidnap and that the man’s statement was not convincing. The police found that Surendra, a painter, along with his uncle Appala Raju, had attacked a family of women and children while they were on a picnic. There was only one male member in the group. Both the assailants were drunk. When the man resisted, the two fled from the scene.

Fearing that the family would lodge a complaint against him, they disappeared and one of them enacted a kidnap drama. “We are investigating both the complaints and take action accordingly,’’ CI Sudhakar investigating the case said.
