Nandi idol destroyed in search of hidden treasure

NELLORE: Hoping to find hidden treasure under a Nandi idol, unidentified goons used country-made bombs to destroy the idol in an ancient Shiva temple at Kanaparthi village in Naguluppalapadu mandal of Prakasam district during the early hours of Monday.

The temple is located in the village, which is close to the seacoast. Villagers noticed the damaged idol of Nandeeswara on Monday morning.

Going by the broken pieces of the stone idol, villages suspected the use of country bombs to break the idol to find the hidden treasure.

Sub-Inspector of Naguluppalapadu Y.V. Ramanaiah said they are sending the broken pieces and some black material found near the broken idol to the forensic lab for analysis.

While expressing doubts over use of country bombs to break the Nandi idol, he said they will know about this theory only after receiving the report from the lab. He added that they have registered a case and are investigating.
