Solar scam: V D Satheesan fires first salvo

Terms solar commission recommendations serious', blasts govt for not giving copy of report.

Thiruvananthapuram: The 'A' group in the Kerala unit of the Congress party was caught unawares by V. D. Satheesan MLA's ‘revelation’ on Tuesday that the solar judicial commission report contained serious recommendations. He said there was no sanctity in the argument against releasing the report when chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan had already revealed major findings before the media.
He demanded the party’s high power political affairs committee to discuss the issue of denying the report to former chief minister Oommen Chandy.

The KPCC vice-president was fielding questions at a press meet at Indira Bhavan called to explain UDF’s month-long Padayorukkam roadshow against the state and Union governments from the northern border town of Uppala to the state capital bringing top leaders including vice-president Rahul Gandhi. He maintained that the Assembly should sit at least for a day for tabling the report, which the Congress party sees something very critical of the leaders. The AICC has sought a report on it. “The Congress will discuss the issue in the PAC. But I don’t know whether (those facing charges) have the support of the leadership," he said.

"The high command will decide whether it is necessary to make changes on the list of KPCC office bearers based on the solar allegations.” He said it was natural justice to give a copy of the report to the accused. He accused Union minister Alphons Kannanthanam of acting as a bridge between the CPM and BJP in Kerala. “When the BJP and the Narendra Modi government is putting the future of democracy in danger, the CPM is still arguing about cooperating with the Congress. It is crystal clear that the CPM especially Pinarayi Vijayan is not interested in forging a secular front to fight the BJP,” he added.

Meanwhile, ‘A’ group led by Mr Chandy is upset at his reaction at the press conference, despite an AICC directive against it. A loyalist of the former chief minister told DC leaders like Mr Satheesan were creating problems for the party. “He considers himself as above the party. He informed KPCC president M. M. Hassan that he wanted to address the media on protest rallies. He could have said ‘no comments’ when such questions came," said a loyalist.
