Master plan for Canoli renovation in a month
KOZHIKODE: The Regional Town planning committee handed over the detailed survey report to the district collector, which analysed the feasibility of Canoli canal and Kallayi river renovation project, on Tuesday. The survey report was handed over to collector U.V. Jose for further evaluation of the report based on which decisions will be made on the commencement of both the projects. "In one month's time, a master plan will be designed and developed for the renovation of Canoli canal and Kallayi River," Mr Jose.
The master plan will be developed with the support of the Indian Institute of Architects and Town Planning department officials. The 13-km-long Canoli canal was surveyed in just a day's time with the support of officials of various government departments and technical and architecture students from the district, he added. The survey points out that there are a total of 97 industrial centres, 238 business centres, 501 houses and seven hospitals along the banks of Canoli Canal.
Among these, 174 institutions, including hospitals, let off their waste into the canal, according to the survey. The Collector said that strict action would be taken against these institutions. At the same time, the road would be expanded along Kallayi River, for which rehabilitation packages would have to be designed, the Collector pointed out. Various projects will be introduced for the conservation of the Kallayi River, he added.
