Know what precautions to take for Diwali

Fire services and disaster management advised people to call 101 or 9949991101 in case of fire accidents during Diwali.

Hyderabad: Dr R Venugopal, Deputy Chief Controller of the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) on Tuesday urged general public for celebrating a safely Diwali.
He said 40 per cent of the people who injured by firecrackers last year were under the age of 15. The most common injuries were to the head, face, ears or eyes.
Dr Venugopal, and DG, fire services, Rajiv Rathan suggested a few safety tips.
Do not drink liquor and light fireworks
Do not buy loose fireworks or packs
Never light fireworks indoors
Protect pets when fireworks are likely to be set off
Wear gloves when holding sparklers. Do not wear nylon clothing, open neck shirts, T shirts or shorts
Read the labels before igniting fireworks
Keep a bucket of water and water hose handy
Never throw point or shoot fireworks towards people, pets, buildings or vehicles
Keep fireworks in a closed box and use them one at a time
Never hold a baby in your arms while lighting fireworks
