Karnataka: Thousands witness Theerthodhbava
Mysuru: Over a lakh people from around the country, who included many from Tamil Nadu, braved the cold at Talacauvery in Kodagu, the birthplace of the Cauvery, to have a glimpse of the sudden surge, seen once a year, in the river’s flow, from the Brahma Kundike, its place of origin, at precisely 12.32 pm on Tuesday.
The phenomenon dubbed “Theerthodbava” draws devotees in hordes. Many, who had arrived for the Cauvery “Thula Sankramana” took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam in Bhagamandala and offering prayers to mother Cauvery, accepted the Cauvery theertha (holy water) at Talacauvery.
Mysuru Kodagu MP, Pratap Simha, MLA, Appachchu Ranjan, MLC, Veena Achaiah and others joined them in offering prayers to the Cauvery river, which is a lifeline of the people of Mysuru and Bengaluru and places en route, besides Tamil Nadu. Later, a music concert was held to entertain the pilgrims.
The Kodagu administration provided additional bus services and other facilities for the devotees, who began arriving on Monday. Security was tight.
