Kochi: Chendamangalam panchayat has initiated a total and long-term rehabilitation programme 'Sramam' in the flood affected areas with the support of artists' group 'Collective Phase One'.
Collective Phase One in association with the panchayat will organise a three-day programme from September 29 to October 1 to discuss and finalise the rehabilitation programme for the panchayat, devastated by the floods.
"Collective Phase One will act as a driving force for conceptualising and implementing the total rehabilitation programme under the leadership of panchayat authorities. The group will utilise its contacts with prominent personalities in art, culture and other sectors for effective implementation of the programme," said Pramod Sankar of 'Collective Phase One'.
Some of the major proposals which will be finalised during the three-day programme include projects to make flood hit areas self-reliant, ensuring participation of civil society in implementing the multi-dimensional rehabilitation programme for 18 wards, constituting a group of social activities, technical experts and artists, methods to effectively tap the support for rehabilitation extended from various parts of the country, projects to popularize the historical and cultural specialties of the area, workshops and special programmes for women and children, ensuring financial assistance to purchase damaged/lost household items and environment conservation plans.
Meanwhile, renowned artists Bose Krishnamachari, who attended a consultative meeting held on Sunday, has extended support of Biennale Foundation for the initiative.
