Mumbai: FIR against 11 housing society members for denying flat to Muslim family
The members reportedly told the flat owner that he was free to sell the flat to someone within the community but not to Muslims.
Mumbai: Police have filed an FIR against eleven members of a cooperative housing society in neighbouring Vasai, after a Muslim family was allegedly denied a flat there.
The FIR was lodged at the Manikpur police station late this evening.
A majority of the members of Happy Jivan Co-operative Society allegedly opposed sale of a flat by its owner to a Muslim family, a police official said.
A meeting was held on September 4 and a resolution opposing the proposed sale was passed.
The members told K Patel, the flat owner, that he was free to sell the flat to someone within the community but not to a Muslim person.
Following this, Patel approached the police, alleging that the society had refused the No Objection Certificate for the sale.
