Government vows consensus on Athirappilly
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan said that the government would take a decision on the Athirappilly power project only after a consensus between politicians and environmentalists who were opposed to it.
Replying to a calling attention motion notice by Congress MLA P T Thomas in the Assembly on Thursday, the Chief Minister said that though the project had already got all the mandatory clearances, the government would take any decision only after the consensus.
Pinarayi also said that as per the plan prepared for the project, it would not affect the Athirapilly waterfalls or the environment in anyway. Not even a single drop of water would be lost due to the project nor would the water flow be affected, he reiterated.
Legal opinion sought on Mohan Bhagwat issue
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat was found to have violated rules by hoisting a flag at a school in Palakkad on Independence day and the government had sought legal opinion on further action. Replying to a submission made by opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala in the Assembly on Thursday, the Chief Minister said that the guidelines issued by the government and Director or Public Instructions on Independence day celebrations at schools were found to have been violated at the Kannaki Amman Higher Secondary school at Palakkad.
The Chief Minister also said that as per the district collector and district education officials, Mohan Bhagwat hoisted the flag at a function attended by students and Vande Mataram was sung. The national anthem was sung only after someone pointed out the lapse. After the issue became controversial, the school principal later on hoisted the national flag. But no students were present on the occasion.
