TS urban local bodies to soon house libraries on premises

HYDERABAD: The state will soon have public libraries in local bodies across all districts following the successful launch in Warangal and Sircilla districts.

The decision was announced by Arvind Kumar, special chief secretary, MA&UD, on Monday, He took to twitter to post about the campaign.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Arvind Kumar said, “We will have at least one library in each of the 142 ULBs. Apart from books, the libraries will have online research facilities. We will seek book donations from everyone who wishes to rise to the occasion, including individuals and institutions''.

Within minutes the twitter post was flooded with suggestions from citizens.

One such user Ali Syed said, “Some GHMC parks can accommodate a mini-library building. It'll be an efficient use of unutilised public spaces. Such libraries can have a shared pool of books that may be routinely rotated or restocked upon an e-request”.

Another user S.Q. Masood tweeted, “Pls have some plan for Upgradation of City Samstha Grandhalaya libraries in GHMC too. Thanks (sic).”

Asif Ali Khan called for small kiosks in all community parks. He tweeted: Sir, create small kiosks in all community parks, with general knowledge books & newspapers in diff. languages with adjoined covered play areas for kids. Parents walk kids learn/ play (sic)”.

Many suggested small reading corners in parks and every crèche.
