Fire at paint factory injures nine workers

Blaze caused due to explosion in manufacturing unit

Hyderabad: Nine migrant workers working in a paint company Blend Colour Private Limited at Shadnagar were injured in an explosion in the factory late on Sunday night. All of them have received above 50 per cent burns and are undergoing treatment in Hyderabad.

The injured persons are identified as Sharath Sonavali, 30, from Maharashtra, Raju Samantha, 23, and Manoj Das, 30, from West Bengal, Sunil Yankura, 40, from Karnataka, Puram Singh, 39, Giridhar Singh, 39, and Pradyuman, 30, from Odisha, Meerulal Hazda, 25, and Jayadev Pathro, 23, from Jharkhand.

While the injured workers claimed that the fire broke out due to an explosion in the factory, a prima facie probe revealed that while manufacturing plastic granules the fire broke out, trapping the injured workers working at the spot of fire. Around 80 workers were on duty in the factory at the time of the incident, but others managed to escape.

Fire tenders rushed to the spot and controlled the fire. The injured persons were first rushed to a community health centre at Shadnagar and were later shifted to Hyderabad for better treatment.

A case has been registered under sections 336 and 338 of the IPC, said Shadnagar SHO K. Prathap Lingam. All the injured persons are undergoing treatment. While the exact cause of fire is being probed, the statements of the injured persons also would be recorded to know the causes. Further investigation is underway, he said.
