Vigilance should probe land deal: LDF
Thrissur: The ruling LDF of Chalakudy Municipality on Monday has proposed a vigilance inquiry into the alleged encroachment of one-acre government land for the construction of D-Cinemaas in Chalakudy by actor Dileep. The council which had the issue as the fourth item on the agenda discussed the matter, and LDF councillors including vice chairman Wilson Panattuparambil alleged that the previous UDF-led council had taken Rs 5 lakh for the Town Hall construction and received Rs 20 lakh from the actor to brush the issue under the carpet.
Both the construction of the theatre complex and the town hall of the civic body were going on in 2014. As requested by the LDF members, the council on Monday came up with the vigilance enquiry proposal. The LDF also alleged that the present opposition leader V. O. Pailappan, who was the UDF chairman in 2014, was instrumental in allowing the actor to encroach and they had protested before his chamber. Meanwhile, Congress members who had staged a walkout before the matter was taken up alleged that a minister from Thrissur, whose son had recently acted in a film, was preventing revenue officials from taking action on the Land Revenue Commissioner’s report in 2015 citing illegality of D-Cinemaas land.
