Ramesh Chennithala wants MGNREGA dues paid
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala has given a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly where he has demanded that the pending dues towards Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) should be expedited. In all Rs 46.87 crore has been pending since 2016 December. It was at the venue of the inauguration of Kochi metro that Chennithala gave a memorandum seeking PM’s intervention on the MGNREGA issue.
The memorandum stated that 20 lakh beneficiaries are working under this scheme majority of whom were women. He informed Modi that ever since their wages were denied, they have been living in penury. Chennithala recalled that when the law is that the beneficiaries are supposed to get their wages within 15 days of work, they have been denied it since December 2016. Chennithala also informed that when dues of other states were settled in April this year, the long standing need of Kerala is yet to be considered.
