Kudumbashree workers set to continue stir
KOZHIKODE: The Kudumbashree sanitation workers have decided to resume their indefinite strike in front of City Corporation office after their meeting with Mayor Thottathil Raveendran failed to find a solution. Citing technical issues, authorities ad denied their main demand of making them Corporation’s contingent workers. “We have no rights to include these workers among the 200 contingent employees hired by Corporation, as the appointment are made through Government’s employment exchange office,” said Mr Raveendran.
“But we are ready to accept their other demands like providing safety tools for work; bearing 50 per cent of the fuel and vehicle maintenance bill; and providing health cards and regular free check- ups.” Corporation has called for yet another meeting with the workers. It is feared that if the protest prolonged, garbage pile up in city will cause serious health issues.
