Myanmar refugees sent back to Wayanad

The immigration officials here have reported the matter to their counterparts in charge of Wayanad as well as the authorities in Delhi.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A group of 26 suspected Myanmar refugees, including women and children, from Delhi who reached Thiruvananthapuram from Wayanad on a KSRTC bus on Friday morning were not allowed to alight at the bus stand by the Bureau of Immigration officials.

On a tip-off received by the Foreigners' Regional Registration Officer here, the officials intercepted them at the bus stand itself and sent them back to Wayanad.
Sources said that it was suspicious how they managed to get permission to stay in Wayanad. The immigration officials here have reported the matter to their counterparts in charge of Wayanad as well as the authorities in Delhi.

According to sources, there were restrictions on Myanmar refugees in Delhi to move out of Delhi and hence they were not allowed to alight here. The team led by one Abdul Rehuman maintained that they had come down in search of jobs. They comprised five families.
