Army rules hit wedding hall guests in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The AOC restrictions are also affecting civilians attending functions at Army installations.
The AOC Regimental Association function hall, which was allegedly built illegally, beside the Thapar stadium, is rented out to civilians and civilians are also invited for some Army functions. But they are being stopped by sentries at the gates, citing restrictions.
The building is built on private land; however, the route passes through A1 defence land, whose roads are closed during restricted hours. SCB Ward 5 member Mr J. Ramakrishna said the function hall was built without permission on private land. “Those attending functions after 10 pm are turned away and those with invitation cards are asked to pack up before 10 pm,” he said.
He added that the SCB had served a demolition notice on the hall. The AOC Regimental Association has about 33,275 sq. yards in West Marredpally. The land was transferred to the association decades ago and it had applied for a building permission to construct the function hall with a plinth area of 1,424 sq. metres for both Army and civilian use in January, 2015.
Objections were raised that the construction would block sewerage from neighbouring colonies and the Board decided to release the building sanction plan after an inspection. Official sources, however, said that before an inspection could be carried out, the association started construction and completed the building.
The SCB sent notices to Padam Singh Farm for raising a function hall for commercial purposes without approval. When the issue of jawans stopping guests to the hall was raised in the SCB meeting on Monday, board president Brig. A.S. Negi asked for it in writing.
