Dr Bhaskar Rao urges states to create green corridors for organ transportation

HYDERABAD: Dr B. Bhaskar Rao, organising chairman of Cahocon-2023, the conference of Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organisations, appealed to all states to create green corridors for ambulances to enable quick transportation of organ donated for transplantation, as time was of vital importance.

Dr Rao was speaking on the concluding day of the two-day seventh edition of the Cahocon, being held for the first time in the city, which concluded at the HICC here on Sunday.

A statement said that over 1,500 delegates attended the conference for healthcare professionals from across India as well as 15 countries and had 91 speaker sessions. The Caho is a not-for-profit body that aims to enable quality and patient safety initiatives in Indian healthcare.

Speaking at the event, Dr Rao noted that Hyderabad does 100 lung transplantations a year, an Asian record. The city also sees the most number of liver, kidney and bone marrow transplantations. In all these cases, the donated organs needed to be transported quickly.

Dr Rao said the consortium must work along with governments to devise ways and means to transport patients, especially in emergencies, faster.

LifeSigns, an intelligent wireless patient monitoring service, was launched during the closing ceremony. It was stated that it could monitor multiple parameters of several patients continuously.

ENT specialist Dr Narottam Puri was felicitated with lifetime achievement award during the concluding ceremony, Dr Anuradha Pichumani, executive director, Shri Rengal Hospital, Chengalpattu, was honoured with the quality champion award and Dr Geeta Pulari, deputy general manager, Sankara Eye Foundation, with the young quality achiever award.
