Don't have Shah Jahan's papers: Sunni Wakf Board
The property of Taj Mahal vests with Wakf Board because of continuous use, senior counsel Salman Khurshid told a three-judge bench.
New Delhi: The Sunni Wakf Board on Tuesday informed the Supreme Court that no signed documents from the direct descendants of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan are available to show that the 700-year-old historical monument Taj Mahal is a Wakf Board property.
But even in the absence of any document, the property of Taj Mahal vests with Wakf Board because of continuous use, senior counsel Salman Khurshid told a three-judge bench.
The Wakf Tribunal in 2005 held that Taj Mahal is a wakf property. On appeal, the Allahabad HC refused to interfere and the present appeal by ASI is directed against this order
