25 per cent of complaints against Kerala police: P Mohanadas

The Commission considered 108 petitions during the sitting.

KOCHI: As many as 25 per cent of complaints received by the State Human Rights Commission are against police officials, Commission acting chairman P. Mohanadas has said. In such cases, the Commission recommends a probe by top police officers. While holding a district-level sitting at Ernakulam collectorate on Monday, he observed that there was a clear lack of legal awareness among the public.

“Legal awareness is very significant and those having complaints against the Human Rights Commission’s decisions can either submit a review petition or can approach the High Court through a writ petition,” he said. The Commission considered 108 petitions during the sitting. Most of the complaints were against waste dumping and labour disputes.
