Hyderabad: The IMD had on Saturday predicted a heat wave for three days in Telangana, but made no mention of Sunday’s rain and thunderstorm that claimed two lives.
Asked how the IMD could have got it so wrong, assistant meteorologist Narasimha Rao said that southerly winds had increased suddenly and led to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds which caused the rain.
He said that Saturday's forecast had predicted a dry spell but the situation changed in the night. The forecast on Sunday morning said there would be cloud formation and the possibility of rain during the day.

A bout of surprise rain brought respite to the people in some parts of Hyderabad and Medak districts on Sunday. Light to moderate showers were witnessed for some time in the late afternoon and the evening.
Meteorological department officials said the rain was caused by cumulonimbus clouds and it would continue for two more days. They said that sunny spells will continue until the afternoon with light showers expected in the evening and night in different parts of Telangana.
Gusty winds uprooted logs used at an under-construction building in Telephone Colony, Kothapet damaging five cars, two bikes and an autorickshaw parked on the road. Traffic was obstructed for a while before police restored order. Locals blamed the builder for not taking proper measures at the construction site.

Light to moderate rain was witnessed in several areas of the city including Uppal, Habsiguda, ECIL, Bouduppal, Medipally, Saidabad, Malakpet, Dilsukhnagar, Champapet, Chaitanyapuri, Kothapet, LB Nagar, Nampally, Abids, Lakdikapul and Ghatkesar.
Rains were witnessed in few mandals of Medak district, namely Siddipet, Gajwel, Mirdoddi etc.
On the other hand, the heat wave conditions continued in various parts of Telangana until afternoon on Sunday.

Ramagundam in Karimnagar district recorded was hottest at 45ºC followed by Medak (44), Warangal, Nalgonda (43), Hyderabad, Khammam, Mahbubnagar, Bhadrachalam (42ºC).
Officials said that heat wave conditions will continue in Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Ranga Reddy for the next two days.
