Two denied advance bail in Jishnu Pranoy suicide case
Thrissur: The district additional sessions court here on Friday rejected the anticipatory bail petitions of the third and the fourth accused in the Jishnu Pranoy suicide case. They are K .N. Satkhivel, vice-principal of Nehru College, Pampady, and C.P. Praveen, examination invigilator at Jishnu’s examination hall. The court had completed the hearing of the argument on Thursday. District government pleader K.D. Babu cited the 164 statement of principal Varadarajan in which he had mentioned that Jishnu was trapped by the college authorities and teachers on false charges of copying during the examination on January 6 and that they had forcibly made him sign an apology letter.
“Due to the severe mental and physical torture by the college authorities, Jishnu committed suicide. As the accused are powerful, they could influence the witnesses and the investigation if they are granted bail,” Mr Bahu told the court. The special investigation team led by ASP Kiran Narayanan has failed to arrest second accused Sanjith K. Viswanathan, PRO of the college, and fifth accused, Dipin, exam cell co-ordinator. They have not been granted anticipatory bail by the High Court. Cases were slapped on them on February 13. First accused P. Krishnadas, chairman of Nehru Group of Institutions, had obtained anticipatory bail from the High Court earlier.
